The Fire Point FP-1 is a long-range strike UAV and loitering munition developed by the Ukrainian defense technology company Fire Point. While some databases may list the ICAO code 'FP1' as a landplane, all verifiable evidence identifies the FP-1 as an unmanned system rather than a crewed aircraft. The platform is specifically designed for deep-strike missions against strategic targets, including ammunition depots, command centers, and oil refineries within Russia and Russian-occupied territories.
Fire Point was established in 2022 in Kyiv, Ukraine, in response to the full-scale Russian invasion. The company experienced rapid growth, expanding from fewer than 20 employees in early 2023 to several thousand by 2025. Under the leadership of CEO Iryna Terekh, the firm developed an industrialized production model for the FP-1. By 2024–2025, production lines were capable of producing very large quantities, with reports suggesting rates between 100 and 200 units per day. The unit cost is estimated at approximately US$55,000, making it a cost-effective alternative to expensive cruise missiles.
Technically, the FP-1 is a propeller-driven aircraft powered by an internal combustion piston engine. A significant achievement of the manufacturer is the indigenous production of engine components; Fire Point produces over 97% of the engine parts in-house, specifically 80 of the 82 required components. In terms of performance, the FP-1 is capable of reaching ranges up to 1,600 km when equipped with a 50 kg warhead, though some sources cite a range of over 1,400 km with a combat payload. The system can carry a maximum warhead payload of up to 120 kg. To ensure survivability in contested environments, the drone utilizes autonomous navigation designed to resist electronic warfare (EW) jamming.
In operational service, the FP-1 is utilized by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It has had a profound strategic impact, with reports indicating that the FP-1 has been responsible for more than 60% of Ukraine's successful deep-strike attacks inside Russian territory. While originally designed as a one-way kamikaze drone, the platform has evolved into a more flexible system capable of reconnaissance and varied payload delivery. It exists alongside other Fire Point developments, such as the tactical FP-2 and the FP-5 'Flamingo' cruise missile.
