Flight Design has been active as an aircraft manufacturer since 1988, having evolved from a small business focused on gliders and ultralights. The company gained significant recognition through its CT series of composite light sport aircraft. The F2 represents the newest generation of the company's aviation technology. The aircraft is produced by Flight Design general aviation GmbH in Germany, with distribution and support in North America provided by Flight Design USA.
While a formal production start date is not publicly documented, the F2 appeared as a model under development in the late 2010s and was being flown and evaluated as a production-standard aircraft by 2020. Design and Technical Specifications
The F2 was designed specifically to comply with the European CS-23 certification standards and the ASTM F3180 low-speed flight characteristics requirements. A primary focus of the design is safety and occupant comfort; the aircraft features an all-composite airframe and an extra-large cabin measuring 50.5 inches in width, which is equipped with airbags to enhance occupant protection.
The aircraft is powered by a Rotax 912iS four-cylinder, four-stroke, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected piston engine producing 100 hp. This engine is paired with a Neuform three-blade CR3 65-inch composite propeller. The F2 is designed for versatility in fuel, with approval for 100LL, 91 avgas, and premium automotive unleaded fuel, stored in a 34.3 US gallon tank.
Operational Role and Performance
As a civil light aircraft, the F2 is used for personal recreational flying, light touring, and flight training. It is operated by private owners and flying schools. In terms of performance, the aircraft has a cruise speed of approximately 115 KIAS and a maximum speed of 120 KIAS (limited by U.S. LSA rules). It offers a range of 850 nm at 7,500 ft when operating at 55% power. The stall speed is 45 KIAS with neutral flaps and 39 KIAS with full flaps.
