Produced by Australian Aircraft Kits, this single-engine aircraft is available as both a kit and a factory-built model, tailored for rugged operational environments.

Designed by Ole Hartmann, the AAK Hornet is a specialized light sport aircraft engineered for short-take-off-and-landing (STOL) performance and practical utility. The aircraft was developed to serve demanding roles, including cattle mustering and outback flying, and is marketed as a roomy, large-capacity aircraft suitable for amateur construction. Production began in 2003 through Australian Aircraft Kits (AAK) based in Taree, New South Wales. By early 2022, at least 62 Hornet aircraft had been delivered, and the manufacturer continued to advertise updated versions of the design into 2023.

The Hornet is characterized by its flexible engine options to suit various operational needs. The standard powerplant is the Hirth 3701ES, a three-cylinder, two-stroke engine producing 75 kW (100 hp). However, other configurations are available, including the Rotax 912ULS (75 kW/101 hp), the Rotax 914 (86 kW/115 hp), the Rotec R2800 radial (82 kW/110 hp), and the Lycoming O-320 (112 kW/150 hp). A specialized variant known as the Hornet TUG utilizes a converted 2.3 L Subaru liquid-cooled engine producing 119 kW (160 hp) for the purpose of towing gliders.

Technically, the aircraft features a length of 6.4 m and a height of 2.4 m, with a wingspan reported between 8.8 m and 8.9 m. It has an empty weight of 310 kg and a maximum loaded weight of 600 kg. Performance varies by source, with maximum speeds cited between 180 km/h and 185 km/h and cruise speeds ranging from 140 km/h to 148 km/h.
