Air Malawi was the national airline of Malawi, headquartered in Lilongwe and founded in 1967. Operating as a full-service carrier, the airline primarily served regional routes connecting Malawi to neighboring countries in southern and east Africa, with its main hub at Lilongwe International Airport and a secondary base in Blantyre. Air Malawi offered scheduled passenger service across multiple cabin classes and operated both turboprop and jet aircraft suitable for regional operations. The airline faced significant financial difficulties throughout its history and ceased operations in 2022 after decades of struggling with mounting debts and operational challenges. As Malawi's flag carrier for over five decades, Air Malawi played an important role in connecting the country to regional aviation networks, though it never achieved the scale or stability of larger African carriers.
