Braathens was a major Norwegian airline founded in 1946 and headquartered in Oslo, operating as a full-service carrier that dominated domestic and regional Scandinavian routes throughout much of its history. The airline was known for pioneering several innovations in Nordic aviation and built a strong reputation for service quality, with a hub at Oslo Airport serving as its primary base for operations. Braathens offered multiple cabin classes including business and economy service on its regional and some longer European routes, and operated a frequent flyer program for its loyal customer base. The airline ceased operations in 2002 after being integrated into Scandinavian Airlines (SAS), following years of intense competition and industry consolidation in the Scandinavian market.
