ExpressJet Airlines was a regional carrier headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, that operated as a major feeder airline for United Airlines from its founding in 1986 until its closure in 2020. The airline primarily conducted regional passenger operations on behalf of United, operating turboprop and regional jet aircraft on short- to medium-haul routes throughout the United States, with significant hub operations in cities including Columbus and Chicago. As a United Express partner, ExpressJet passengers had access to United's MileagePlus frequent flyer program and could book connections through United's extensive network. ExpressJet operated as a regional subsidiary model, focusing exclusively on contract flying for its major carrier partner rather than independent scheduled service. The airline was also known for operating charter and ad-hoc services in addition to its mainline regional contracts. ExpressJet ceased operations in March 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic after United ended its regional flying contracts with the carrier.
