Colgan Air was a regional airline based in Manassas, Virginia, that operated as a regional carrier for major U.S. airlines including Continental Airlines, US Airways, and Delta Air Lines from its founding in 1965 until its closure in 2010. The airline primarily operated regional turboprop and regional jet services on behalf of its major airline partners, connecting smaller markets to major hubs across the eastern and central United States. Colgan Air was known for its extensive regional network, operating flights under the Continental Connection, US Airways Express, and Delta Connection brands depending on the contract partner. The airline ceased operations in December 2010 following the Colgan Air Flight 3407 accident in 2009, which prompted regulatory changes and contributed to the company's financial difficulties. During its final years, Colgan Air had been a significant regional feeder carrier, though the combination of post-accident safety scrutiny, increased pilot training requirements, and economic pressures led to the airline's eventual shutdown.
