SkyEurope was a low-cost carrier based in Bratislava, Slovakia, that operated from 2001 until its collapse in 2009. The airline primarily served Central and Eastern Europe, operating point-to-point routes from its main hub in Bratislava to destinations across the continent, with a secondary focus on routes from other Central European cities. SkyEurope positioned itself as a budget alternative to legacy carriers in the region, offering no-frills service with a single economy cabin and ancillary revenue through add-on fees. The airline was part of the broader European low-cost carrier wave of the 2000s but struggled with profitability amid intense competition from larger budget carriers like Ryanair and easyJet. SkyEurope ceased operations in December 2009 during the global financial crisis, marking the end of Central Europe's largest homegrown low-cost airline venture.
