The Hellenic Air Force (HAF) is the aerial warfare service branch of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff of Greece, established in its modern form following World War II. As a military air force rather than a commercial airline, the HAF operates a fleet of fighter jets, transport aircraft, and helicopters to defend Greek airspace and support national defense operations. The service maintains multiple air bases throughout Greece, including major installations near Athens and Thessaloniki, and participates in NATO operations and training exercises as a member of the alliance since 1952. The HAF operates primarily European and American-made military aircraft and conducts missions ranging from air defense and patrol to transport and search-and-rescue operations. With a significant operational presence in the Eastern Mediterranean and Aegean Sea regions, the HAF plays a key role in Greece's security infrastructure and regional military capabilities.
