The Zlin Z-42 was Czechoslovakia's first successful side-by-side trainer aircraft, designed to modernize flight training beyond traditional tandem-seat configurations. First flown on October 17, 1967, it was a low-wing all-metal monoplane powered by a 180-horsepower Avia M-137A inverted inline engine, seating two pilots side-by-side with full aerobatic capability. Spanning over 750 aircraft produced across all variants by 2020, the Z-42 measured its success through widespread international adoption and a production run exceeding five decades. The aircraft was manufactured by Moravan Otrokovice in the Czech Republic.
