Malév Hungarian Airlines was Hungary's flagship carrier, founded in 1946 and headquartered in Budapest, where it operated its main hub at Ferenc Liszt International Airport. As a full-service legacy airline, Malév operated both passenger and cargo services, connecting Budapest to major European cities and select destinations beyond Europe, with a particular focus on routes throughout Central and Eastern Europe. The airline was a member of the oneworld alliance and offered multiple cabin classes including business and economy service, along with its Malév Frequent Flyer program for loyalty rewards. Malév was majority-owned by the Hungarian state and faced mounting financial difficulties in the late 2000s, ultimately ceasing all operations in February 2012 after decades of serving as an important regional carrier in Central Europe.
