Mandala Airlines was an Indonesian low-cost carrier founded in 1997 and based in Jakarta, operating as a subsidiary of the Mandala Group conglomerate. The airline primarily focused on domestic passenger operations within Indonesia, with routes connecting major cities including Jakarta, Surabaya, Medan, and Bali. Mandala Airlines offered single-class economy seating on its regional and trunk routes, competing in Indonesia's growing low-cost aviation market during the early 2000s. The airline ceased operations in 2005 following financial difficulties and operational challenges that were common among regional carriers in Southeast Asia during that period. Despite its relatively short operational history, Mandala Airlines represented an important phase in Indonesia's aviation market development as the country expanded its domestic air transport capacity.
