Monarch Airlines was a British airline headquartered in Luton that operated as a full-service carrier from 1968 until its collapse in 2017. The airline primarily focused on holiday charter flights and scheduled services, serving popular leisure destinations across Europe, North Africa, and the Mediterranean from its main base at London Luton Airport. Monarch offered both economy and premium economy cabin classes and operated a significant tour operator business alongside its airline operations. The airline was known for serving the British holiday market and maintained a substantial presence in the UK's leisure travel sector for nearly five decades. Monarch ceased all operations in October 2017 following financial difficulties and the failure to secure additional investment, stranding thousands of passengers and marking one of the largest airline failures in recent British aviation history.
