Air Namibia was the flag carrier of Namibia, headquartered in Windhoek, operating scheduled passenger services primarily within southern Africa from its hub at Hosea Kutako International Airport. Founded in 1946 as South West Air Transport and later reorganized as Air Namibia in 1991 following Namibian independence, the airline served as a vital link connecting Namibia to regional destinations including South Africa, Botswana, and Angola, as well as limited international routes. Operating as a full-service airline, Air Namibia offered economy and business class seating on its regional network and was a member of the Star Alliance through a partnership agreement with Lufthansa. The airline faced ongoing financial challenges throughout its history due to the limited size of Namibia's domestic market and competition from larger regional carriers, ultimately ceasing operations in 2020. Air Namibia's closure marked the end of Namibia's national airline operations, with regional connectivity subsequently served by other African and international carriers.
