The Royal Norwegian Air Force (Luftforsvaret) is the air service branch of the Norwegian Armed Forces, established in its modern form in 1944 and headquartered in Oslo, Norway. As a military operator, it conducts air defense, surveillance, transport, and search-and-rescue missions across Norwegian territory and waters, including the strategically important Arctic region. The service operates modern combat aircraft, transport planes, and helicopters to fulfill its NATO commitments and national defense responsibilities. With a primary focus on territorial protection and NATO alliance obligations, the Royal Norwegian Air Force maintains operational bases throughout the country and participates in joint exercises with allied nations.
