Olympic Airlines was Greece's flagship carrier, founded in 1957 and headquartered in Athens, operating as a full-service legacy airline serving both passenger and cargo routes across Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa with Athens as its primary hub. The airline was a member of Star Alliance and offered multiple cabin classes including business and economy on its international services, while maintaining a domestic network throughout Greece. Olympic Airlines operated regional services in addition to its longer-haul European flights, competing with other major European carriers in connecting passengers through Athens to various Mediterranean and international destinations. The airline ceased operations in 2009 after facing significant financial difficulties, with its remaining assets and operations subsequently absorbed by Aegean Airlines, another major Greek carrier. Olympic Airlines was notable as Greece's national carrier for over five decades, playing an important role in connecting the country to the broader European aviation network during much of the post-war period.
