PLUNA (Primeras Líneas Uruguayas de Navegación Aérea) was Uruguay's flag carrier, founded in 1936 and headquartered in Montevideo. The airline operated as a full-service carrier providing scheduled passenger service throughout South America, with a particular focus on connecting Uruguay to neighboring Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay, as well as offering flights to the United States and Europe. PLUNA was a member of the SkyTeam alliance and offered multiple cabin classes including business and economy seating, along with its frequent flyer program. The airline ceased operations in 2012 following financial difficulties and operational challenges. Despite its long history as Uruguay's national airline, PLUNA was unable to compete effectively with larger regional and international carriers in an increasingly competitive South American aviation market.
