The Eagle DW-1 was a specialized single-seat agricultural biplane that revolutionized crop spraying with its innovative sailplane-inspired wing design and precision application capabilities. First flown in 1977, it featured a high-wing biplane configuration with an initial Jacobs R-755 radial engine later standardized to a 300-horsepower Lycoming IO-540 flat-six, carrying 208 imperial gallons of chemicals. With its distinctive 55-foot wingspan—nearly twice that of competing agricultural aircraft—and unique combination of ailerons and spoilers for rapid maneuvering, the DW-1 demonstrated superior efficiency in sensitive spraying operations. Eagle Aircraft Company of Boise, Idaho designed and certificated the aircraft, with production handled by Bellanca Aircraft in Minnesota.
