Republic Airlines was a major U.S. carrier founded in 1979 through the merger of North Central Airlines and Southern Airways, headquartered in Minneapolis-Saint Paul. Operating as a full-service legacy airline, Republic served as a key regional and mainline carrier with significant hub operations in Minneapolis-Saint Paul and Memphis, focusing on domestic routes throughout the United States. The airline was a member of the NRDC (Northwest Regional Dependent Carriers) group and offered multiple cabin classes including first class and economy on its route network. Republic Airlines ceased operations in 1986 after being acquired by Northwest Airlines, with its remaining operations and routes subsequently integrated into Northwest's system. The airline's frequent flyer program was eventually absorbed into Northwest's WorldPerks loyalty program following the merger.
