The AT-6 Texan was the most prolific military trainer aircraft of World War II, training thousands of Allied pilots across more than 60 nations. First flown as the NA-16 prototype on April 1, 1935, it was a single-engine, low-wing monoplane with tandem seating for instructor and student. Powered by a 600-horsepower Pratt & Whitney R-1340 radial engine, over 17,000 examples were manufactured by North American Aviation and foreign licensees. The aircraft served from 1939 through the 1990s in various military training and combat roles worldwide.
