The AS-532 Cougar is a twin-engine military helicopter that became a cornerstone of European rotorcraft operations from the late 1970s onward. First flown in 1977 as a military variant of the Super Puma, it featured twin Turbomeca Makila turboshaft engines and could transport up to 29 fully equipped troops or carry external loads of 4.5 tons. Measuring 15.53 meters in length with a distinctive four-blade main rotor system, approximately 540 units were produced by Aérospatiale and its successor companies.
