Air Canada Captain Charged After Flying 900 Flights Without ATP License
A former Air Canada captain is facing multiple criminal charges after allegedly operating more than 900 domestic and international flights without the required Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL). Geoffrey Wall, 59, of Barrie, Ontario, is accused of using forged documents to deceive both the airline and Transport Canada to maintain his position as pilot-in-command from 2009 until his retirement in 2025.
According to Peel Regional Police, the investigation, dubbed "Project Icarus," revealed that Wall held only a Commercial Pilot License while serving as captain on Boeing 767, 777, and 787 wide-body aircraft. Investigators allege Wall never completed the mandatory Transport Canada exams required for an ATPL. Police estimate he earned approximately C$2.9 million in salary during the period of the alleged fraud.
Air Canada stated that Wall was immediately removed from duty once the licensing discrepancy was detected during a routine check at Toronto Pearson International Airport. The airline emphasized that safety was not compromised, noting that Wall passed all recurrent simulator training, annual line checks, and proficiency evaluations. Wall was arrested on June 1 and is scheduled to appear in court on June 29, 2026, facing charges of fraud over $5,000, public mischief, and uttering forged documents.
