Air France Flight Rejects Takeoff at LAX After Runway Incursion
LOS ANGELES — Air France Flight AF-25, a Boeing 777-300ER registered F-GZNP, rejected takeoff April 8 following an active runway incursion involving a Gulfstream jet at Los Angeles International Airport.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:15 p.m. local time as the Air France crew was accelerating for departure. The flight crew safely stopped the aircraft at approximately 60 knots after automated runway status lights activated due to the unauthorized traffic on the runway. Aviation analyst Juan Browne, who reviewed video footage of the event, commended the crew's quick response, noting the aircraft vacated the runway without injuries or damage.
The Federal Aviation Administration has launched an investigation into the Gulfstream crew's failure to comply with hold short instructions. The incident was part of a challenging day at LAX that included multiple runway safety events, underscoring ongoing concerns about ground traffic management at one of the nation's busiest airports.
