AOPA Names Wippler Chairman After Pleasance Departure
Leadership Transition
The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association announced major leadership changes March 20, 2026, installing Luke Wippler as board chairman following the removal of President and CEO Darren Pleasance. The board characterized the transition as necessary to guide AOPA's next chapter while maintaining its advocacy mission.
Governance Renewal
Wippler, a trustee since 2015, joins four independent trustees added over the past two years as part of ongoing governance reforms. Bill Trimble and Jim Hauslein announced they will not seek reelection at the May 12 annual meeting.
Looking Ahead
The organization's legislative priorities include responding to the 2025 DCA midair collision and supporting portable ADS-B In devices. AOPA prepares for the Sun 'n Fun Expo in April before members vote on bylaw reforms during the annual meeting.
