Cessna 172 Overturns in Pacoima Lot After Wire Strike During Forced Landing
A Cessna 172S Skyhawk SP overturned in a Pacoima, California, store parking lot April 20 following a wire strike during a forced landing attempt, according to Los Angeles Fire Department reports. The aircraft, registered N2126F, encountered issues shortly after takeoff and struck high-voltage power lines while attempting to return to the area.
Witnesses and video footage from aviation analyst Blancolirio show the single-engine aircraft overturning in the parking lot during the emergency landing. The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed the involvement of high-voltage lines but had not released updates on pilot injuries or investigation progress as of April 24.
The Aviation Safety Network has classified the event as an incident rather than a fatal crash. Wire strikes remain a documented hazard in general aviation, particularly during low-altitude maneuvers in urban areas near airports such as Whiteman Airport. The National Transportation Safety Board has not yet released preliminary findings to identify the root cause of the emergency descent.
