SÃO PAULO, Brazil — Delta Air Lines Flight DL104 made an emergency return to São Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport on March 29 following a left engine fire shortly after takeoff. The Airbus A330-300 bound for Atlanta experienced the incident during nighttime operations.
Emergency Response
Flight crews shut down the affected engine after receiving fire warnings on cockpit instruments. Video footage shows orange flames and sparks from the left engine, with debris falling to the ground. All 272 passengers and 14 crew members were safely evacuated and transported to the terminal by bus. No injuries were reported.
Investigation Continues
The specific cause of the engine fire has not been disclosed. Delta Air Lines is re-accommodating affected passengers while authorities investigate the incident.
