The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association announced March 20 that Luke Wippler has been elected chairman of its Board of Trustees, succeeding James N. Hauslein in a leadership transition that's part of broader governance reforms aimed at strengthening general aviation advocacy.

Wippler, an AOPA member since 2005, brings 25 years of financial services executive experience to the role. He holds private pilot ratings including multiengine instrument and single-engine seaplane qualifications. The transition follows decisions by Hauslein and former Chairman Bill Trimble not to seek reelection, with Hauslein citing the need for strong business acumen combined with aviation passion as the board expands to 11 trustees.

The leadership changes coincide with ongoing discussions about bylaw updates regarding nominations and term limits. The transition also follows CEO Darren Pleasance's move to an advisory role in February, leaving Katie Pribyl and Jill Baker as acting co-presidents. Members will review proposed bylaw changes at the May 12 annual meeting in Frederick, Maryland.
