Two recent incidents involving Beechcraft Bonanza aircraft have raised concerns about engine reliability in the popular general aviation fleet.

A fatal crash occurred Jan. 8, 2026, near Sabine Pass, Texas, when a Bonanza A36 (N3215U) experienced catastrophic engine failure, destroying the aircraft. According to the NTSB preliminary report, the pilot reported oil pressure and RPM fluctuations 11 minutes before the crash. In a separate February 2026 incident, a Bonanza (N229TT) crashed into vehicles on a roadway after departing Greenville airport, though no fatalities occurred. The pilot had issued a mayday call, stating they would not make it back to the airport.

These incidents follow other recent Bonanza engine failures, including a V35B (N35KA) incident at Gulf Shores-Jack Edwards Airport and substantial damage to another V35B (N9AB). Aviation safety expert Scott Perdue from FlyWire emphasizes the importance of understanding pilot decision-making during such emergency situations. The aviation community awaits further investigation and analysis from the NTSB and other regulatory bodies.
