MANDERA, Kenya — An EBB Air Embraer EMB-120RT Brasilia overran the runway during landing at Mandera Airport (NDE/HKMA) on April 24, 2026, sustaining substantial damage but with no injuries reported.

The aircraft, registered 5Y-EBB, was operating a domestic flight from Nairobi (NBO/HKJK) when it overran the runway and ended up in bushes, according to Aviation Safety Network data.

Photos from the scene show propeller blades had separated from the No. 1 engine following the runway excursion. The aircraft's nose also impacted a concrete pole of the perimeter fence.

Despite the substantial damage to the aircraft, all occupants escaped without injury.

The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority has not yet issued a statement regarding the incident classification or preliminary cause. The occurrence has been categorized as a runway excursion (RE) under ICAO standards.

EBB Air operates the EMB-120RT Brasilia on domestic charter routes within Kenya, including the Nairobi-Mandera service. Aviation Safety Network records indicate this is the first recorded incident for aircraft 5Y-EBB.

Mandera Airport serves the remote northeastern Kenya region near the Somalia border. The airport's single runway presents operational challenges in the arid climate conditions.
