Porter Airlines Dash 8 Struck by De-icing Vehicle at Billy Bishop Airport

A Porter Airlines DHC-8-402Q Dash 8 sustained structural damage after being struck by a de-icing vehicle at Toronto City-Billy Bishop Airport, according to the Aviation Safety Network.

The aircraft, registration C-GLQZ operating as Porter Airlines flight PTR2721, was standing prior to departure when the crew requested propeller de-icing. After the aircraft was configured for de-icing and the brakes were set, the crew experienced an unexpected jolt accompanied by a lifting sensation.

The incident resulted in substantial damage to the right outer wing, with deep gouges approximately three feet in length on the underside. No injuries were reported.

The aircraft was subsequently ferried to the maintenance base under a flight permit and has since been repaired and returned to service.

Porter Airlines operates the DHC-8-402Q Dash 8 on regional routes throughout eastern Canada and the northeastern United States from its hub at Billy Bishop Airport.
