Starsky Aviation Fokker 50 Overruns Runway in Mogadishu Emergency Landing

A Starsky Aviation Fokker 50 (registration 6O-YAS) overran runway 23 at Mogadishu-Aden Adde International Airport during an emergency landing attempt following a technical malfunction after takeoff. All 55 occupants survived the accident with no injuries reported.

The aircraft was destroyed in the runway excursion, but the Somali Civil Aviation Authority confirmed that all passengers and crew were safely evacuated and transported to a hospital for precautionary medical checks.

Official Response

The Somali Civil Aviation Authority reported that all occupants "survived and were promptly transported to hospital" for medical evaluation. An investigation into the cause of the technical malfunction is underway.

Starsky Aviation CEO Ahmed Nur confirmed there were "no injuries, no deaths" and that all passengers and crew were safely evacuated following the runway overrun.

Company spokesman Hassan Mohamed Aden praised the pilot's "swift and calm decision-making" during the emergency situation. He confirmed that a technical issue necessitated the emergency landing attempt and that investigations are ongoing.

Somalia Transportation Minister Mohamed Farah Nuh stated that rescue teams accounted for all occupants and promised a full investigation into the cause of the accident, noting that only the aircraft was damaged.

Preliminary reports indicate the aircraft attempted an emergency landing in the opposite direction of takeoff following the malfunction.
