Trans Guyana Airways Flight Hits Capybara Herd, Gear Collapses at Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, Guyana — A Trans Guyana Airways flight experienced a runway excursion following a wildlife collision during landing at Eugene F. Correira International Airport (OGL) on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.

The Beechcraft 1900D aircraft, registered 8R-GAQ, was operating as flight TGY441 when it struck a herd of capybara while landing on runway 07. The impact caused the plane to veer off the paved surface and resulted in substantial damage, including a collapsed nose landing gear.

All individuals on board were accounted for with no personal injuries reported.
