ALGIERS — Air Algérie announced March 26 it has ordered 10 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft as part of a government-backed fleet modernization strategy aligned with national development plans.

The new jets will arrive in two phases, with the first five aircraft scheduled for delivery in July 2026 and the remaining five in 2027. The delivery slots originated from slots previously held by GOL Airlines, which were freed during its 2024 restructuring.

The order is part of a broader initiative to replace aging narrowbody aircraft, including older Boeing 737-800s and -600s currently in service. Air Algérie targets carrying 9.8 million passengers in 2026 while operating across all 36 airports in Algeria. The airline's total fleet expansion plans include four additional aircraft — Boeing 737 MAX 9s, Airbus A330-900s and Airbus A350-1000s — ordered at the 2023 Paris Air Show. The carrier said the modernization aims to improve passenger experience, expand route networks and adapt to evolving market demands.
