Air Canada Extended Middle East Flight Suspensions

Air Canada has extended flight suspensions to Dubai (DXB) and Tel Aviv (TLV) through early May 2026 due to ongoing Middle East military instability. The suspensions affect Dubai flights until May 1, 2026, and Tel Aviv flights through May 2, 2026, primarily impacting Toronto departures operated by Boeing 787 Dreamliners. The cancellations remove approximately 15,000 weekly seats from Canada's only nonstop Middle East connections.

Passenger Impact and Rebooking Options

Affected passengers can rebook penalty-free with partner airlines via European hubs including London, Frankfurt and Paris, though these alternate routes add 8-12 hours to travel times and may cost passengers an additional $400-$800. Air Canada has updated its rebooking policy four times since March 2, with rebooking deadlines extended to mid-December 2026. The airline is expanding capacity on the Toronto-Delhi route to absorb 30-40% of redirected traffic.

Government Travel Advisories

Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand issued updated travel advisories on March 6, upgrading warnings to "avoid all travel" for Iran, Israel, Lebanon, Kuwait, UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Iraq, Syria and Yemen. The suspensions follow Iranian missile and drone strikes since late February that caused widespread airspace closures across the region. A Canadian charter flight evacuated 180 stranded Canadians from Dubai to Istanbul on March 8.
