Atlantic Aviation NYC eVTOL Infrastructure Build-Out Begins for Joby, Archer
Atlantic Aviation has begun eVTOL infrastructure build-out at East 34th Street Heliport for future Joby and Archer operations. The FBO giant is upgrading utility systems to support electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft. The project is designed to be technology-agnostic, accommodating CCS and GEACS charging standards. Atlantic Aviation states the work will align with early commercial eVTOL entry-into-service timelines.
Infrastructure and Partnerships
Atlantic Aviation has extended its concession agreement with the New York City Economic Development Corporation, committing to retrofit the heliport within a year of FAA certification for commercial eVTOL operations. The site will serve as an early urban air mobility vertiport, supporting both Joby Aviation eVTOL overview and Archer Aviation eVTOL overview. Concession details keep Atlantic as operator through September 30, 2029, while the city frames the project as part of its sustainable infrastructure mission.
Industry Context
This development underscores the shift from aircraft design to infrastructure readiness for New York City as an urban air mobility hub. Existing heliports are becoming the fastest path to market, potentially reducing the need for entirely new airport builds. The project positions NYC as a test case for dense city integration, pending regulatory approval and vehicle certification.
