Boeing 737 MAX Production Cap Raised to 47 Aircraft Per Month
Boeing has officially raised the Boeing 737 MAX production cap to 47 aircraft per month, CEO Kelly Ortberg confirmed during a Tuesday press briefing. The Federal Aviation Administration cleared the increase after Boeing satisfied specific quality reform requirements previously mandated during regulatory oversight.
This increase marks a shift from the 42 aircraft per month rate seen in the first quarter of 2026. While the production system has begun running at the higher volume, Boeing noted it does not expect to stabilize at 47 aircraft monthly until later in the year.
Aviation analysts view the decision as critical for airlines managing fleet planning and delivery timelines. By improving Boeing delivery rates, the company aims to reduce its backlog and respond to new orders more aggressively despite ongoing supply-chain constraints. The move follows years of intense scrutiny after the model's 2019 grounding. Industry observers note that while the step from 42 to 47 is modest compared to pre-crisis ambitions of 50-plus units monthly, it signals regained confidence in Boeing's manufacturing capabilities.
