Enstrom Helicopter Corporation's turbine-powered 480B helicopter has achieved full regulatory compliance with both the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). Aircraft number 5261 is the first new unit built and signed off for full airworthiness, available for sale worldwide. This clearance removes the final barrier for global deliveries following years of regulatory setbacks.

Crash-Resistant Fuel System

The approval follows the late 2025 certification of Enstrom's crash-resistant fuel system (CRFS), which minimizes the risk of post-impact fuel fires. Initial aircraft feature a legacy round dial instrument cluster and a Garmin GTN radio stack, while glass cockpit upgrades remain pending. This system significantly enhances occupant safety by improving fuel containment during accidents.

Market Significance and Future Models

Deliveries of helicopters with optional glass panel technology are anticipated to begin in October 2026. Enstrom is also nearing completion on fuel system mandate compliance for the piston-powered 280FX model, with deliveries expected as early as July 2026. This progress positions the company to re-enter international markets with fully compliant aircraft.
