ITA Airways launched a new long-haul route from Rome Fiumicino to Houston on May 1, 2026, as part of its ongoing fleet modernization strategy. The service begins with three weekly Airbus A330-900neo flights, increasing to five weekly flights starting June 1.

The Italian carrier's fleet currently comprises 107 active aircraft with an average age of 6.2 years. Under its 2026-2030 business plan, ITA Airways plans to add one long-range aircraft annually starting this year, with the fleet stabilizing at around 100 aircraft by 2030 as newer models replace older equipment.

Delivery of five additional Airbus A330-900neos is scheduled to complete by late 2026, allowing retirement of remaining A330-200s inherited from Alitalia. The modernization program may include future acquisitions of Airbus A350-900 aircraft to support ITA's growth and efficiency targets throughout the decade.
