Lufthansa Hit by Four-Day Strike as Cabin Crew Join Pilot Walkout
FRANKFURT — Lufthansa operations faced severe disruption this week as cabin crew joined an ongoing pilot walkout, marking the fourth consecutive day of strikes affecting the German airline group.
Union representatives from Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) and the Independent Flight Attendants' Organization (UFO) launched the coordinated action to press demands for improved pay, pensions and working conditions. Operations at major hubs including Frankfurt and Munich were heavily impacted, with approximately 1,455 flights canceled over two days between April 13-14.
Negotiations between the unions and Lufthansa management remain deadlocked. UFO representatives expressed frustration over management's stance during talks, while Lufthansa described union demands as unrealistic given current profit margins. The airline has implemented a contingency schedule for limited operations and advised passengers to check flight status before traveling. The strike coincides with Lufthansa's 100th anniversary celebration on April 15, where unions plan to stage protests outside company events.
