JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia — Saudia has taken delivery of its first Airbus A321XLR during a handover ceremony at the Airbus facility in Toulouse, France, making the Saudi flag carrier the first airline in the Middle East and Africa to operate the manufacturer's newest extra-long-range single-aisle aircraft.

The aircraft delivery represents a key component of Saudia's fleet strategy under Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 initiative, designed to enable medium- to long-haul point-to-point routes with lower operating costs than traditional widebody aircraft. The A321XLR offers a range of up to 8,700 kilometers and enables flight times of up to nine hours, featuring 24 business suites in what is reported as the largest premium narrowbody cabin in the carrier's fleet.

Industry analysts view this positioning as strategically significant for Saudia's regional competitiveness in long-haul narrowbody operations, enabling exploration of thinner routes to secondary European and Asian markets. The delivery aligns with sustainability goals through improved fuel efficiency per seat. According to Airbus, the certification process included enhanced safety reviews regarding the permanent rear center fuel tank before entering service, marking a milestone in how the airline plans to connect Riyadh and Jeddah to global destinations with greater operational flexibility.
