GUAM — United Airlines has launched a major fleet renewal at Antonio B. Won Pat International Airport, stationing 10 new Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft to replace aging 737-800s at its Pacific hub.

The first aircraft arrived March 4, with full deployment expected by year-end, according to FlightGlobal. Passenger service begins in May 2026, marking a significant upgrade for the carrier's Pacific operations. The new aircraft feature United Next interiors with 166 seats, universal power, seatback entertainment and improved Wi-Fi via Starlink or Viasat systems.

The rollout includes the Island Hopper route (UA155/UA154), spanning 14-16 hours across multiple Micronesian islands. "This investment elevates the premium experience for customers traveling to over 15 regional destinations," said David Kinzelman, United's senior vice president of airport operations and chief customer officer. The program addresses an aging fleet that hasn't seen major cabin upgrades since the 737-800s replaced 727s in 1999, ensuring reliable service for this critical Pacific lifeline.
