A Cessna 172R Skyhawk, registration SU-BRM, operated by the Egyptian Aviation Academy crashed at October Airport in 6th of October City, Egypt, on Friday, June 12, 2026, killing the instructor pilot and injuring a female trainee pilot, the Egyptian Ministry of Civil Aviation said. The aircraft was on a training flight when it went down under unknown circumstances. While initial official reports listed one fatality and one injury, the Aviation Safety Network database subsequently recorded two fatalities, pending final confirmation from investigators.

Civil Aviation Minister Sameh Al-Hefni ordered maximum medical care for the injured trainee and directed the Central Administration for Aviation Accidents to launch an urgent investigation. The ministry pledged "zero tolerance for any negligence" and promised full accountability if safety lapses are discovered, reaffirming its commitment to international safety standards. The identities of the instructor and trainee have not been released.

The Cessna 172 is among the world's most widely used training aircraft, valued for its stable handling characteristics and strong safety record. Training flights, however, frequently involve repeated takeoffs, landings, and low-altitude maneuvering near airports — conditions that can increase exposure to loss-of-control or misjudged-approach accidents. The Egyptian Aviation Academy operates a fleet of single-engine aircraft from October Airport. Investigators are expected to examine operational procedures, maintenance records, and regulatory oversight.
