Cessna 185 Skywagon Flips During Training Flight at Minnesota Airport
A Cessna A185 Skywagon sustained substantial damage April 3 when it slid off the runway and flipped during a training flight at Luverne Municipal Airport in Minnesota. Both occupants — a flight instructor and student pilot — escaped without injury.
According to the National Transportation Safety Board, the aircraft with registration N430RP overturned during landing amid light rain and crosswinds. The instructor pilot is based in Knox, Indiana, and the student pilot is from Humboldt, South Dakota, the Rock County Sheriff's Office reported.
The NTSB has assigned case number CEN26LA158 to the accident and issued a preliminary report. Investigators have not determined a probable cause. Tailwheel aircraft like the Cessna 185 require specific handling techniques during crosswind landings, though the NTSB notes that definitive conclusions will follow the complete investigation.
