Cessna A150L Makes Emergency Landing on Arizona Highway

A Cessna A150L Aerobat, registration N6067J, sustained substantial damage following an emergency landing on U.S. Highway 60 near Superior, Arizona, on May 10. The incident occurred at approximately 1:27 p.m. local time shortly after the aircraft departed from Superior Municipal Airport.

According to a preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board, the pilot executed the emergency landing on the highway. Dashcam footage captured by motorists on U.S. 60 shows the aircraft descending and touching down in front of traffic, narrowly avoiding a head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle. No injuries to the pilot, passengers or motorists were reported.

The NTSB has opened an investigation into the accident, identified as event WPR26LA179. While social media reports from the scene suggest the pilot experienced engine trouble, the NTSB has not yet issued a determination regarding the probable cause. The A150L is a strengthened, aerobatic-capable variant of the Cessna 150 commonly used for flight training.
