Lancair IV Makes Emergency Landing on NC Road After Engine Failure
A Lancair IV registered N94PT sustained substantial damage following a forced landing on Scotland Road in Camden, North Carolina, on April 4, 2026. The aircraft experienced complete engine failure during a personal flight from Hampton Roads Airport in Chesapeake, Virginia, to Currituck County Airport in Maple, North Carolina.
According to NTSB records, the pilot reported a slight decrease in engine power approximately 20 minutes into the flight, followed by complete loss of thrust. The pilot executed an emergency landing on the roadway with landing gear retracted at 11:55 a.m. local time. Both the pilot and passenger escaped without injury, though the aircraft sustained significant damage to the lower fuselage, exhaust system and propeller.
The National Transportation Safety Board has relocated both the airplane and engine to a secure facility for examination. Federal investigators are reviewing the incident to determine the specific cause of the power loss, with no probable cause determined at this time.
