A single-engine Mooney M20J sustained substantial damage after making a forced landing near Morris Municipal Airport (C09) on May 15, 2026. The aircraft, registered N201QM, experienced engine issues while approaching runway 18, according to a preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board.

Local reports from ABC7 Chicago indicate the aircraft clipped trees before coming to rest in a field approximately 60 miles southwest of Chicago. The pilot, who was the sole occupant, was uninjured in the incident during what was classified as a personal flight.

The NTSB has assigned accident number CEN26LA189 to the investigation. While the preliminary report confirms the sequence of events and extent of airframe damage, investigators have not yet determined the probable cause of the engine failure. Mooney M20J aircraft, often called the "201," are high-performance four-seat singles widely used in general aviation.
