A pilot and passenger were critically injured late Sunday when a 1961 Cessna 182D Skylane, registration N9069X, crashed near Lancaster, Ohio. The National Transportation Safety Board logged the accident — assigned case ERA26LA197 — at approximately 10:41 p.m. EDT in Fairfield County. No fatalities were reported at the scene.

Local outlet WSYX ABC 6 reported both occupants were transported to Grant Medical Center in Columbus in critical condition. The NTSB preliminary report indicates the aircraft sustained substantial damage. Investigators are examining the sequence of events during the approach and landing phase, including possible terrain or obstacle contact.

No probable cause has been determined. The Cessna 182 series is among the most common four-seat, single-engine aircraft in the general aviation fleet, but aviation safety data consistently identify night operations and the approach-and-landing phase as elevated risk factors — particularly when pilot visual references are degraded.
