Two people died Tuesday when a Cessna A152 Aerobat, registration G-BRCD, crashed in a field off Mill Lane near High Ongar, Essex. The aircraft had departed North Weald Airfield on what police described as a 30-minute experience flight, according to reports from the BBC and local authorities. Emergency services responded to the scene at approximately 12:30 BST.

Detective Chief Superintendent Morgan Cronin confirmed at a press conference that the aircraft failed to return from its short flight. The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has classified the event as an accident and deployed inspectors to the site. Formal identification of the victims was pending at the time of reporting.

The Cessna A152 Aerobat is a two-seat, single-engine light aircraft designed for basic aerobatic training and flight instruction. The type is widely used by flight schools and commercial experience operators across the U.K. and internationally. Aviation safety researchers have long noted that short experience flights — typically operated at low altitudes with non-pilot passengers — present a distinct risk profile, and the AAIB's investigation is expected to examine all aspects of the flight, including weather, aircraft condition, and pilot actions.
