Two Die as Training Plane Crashes Into Hangar at Parafield Airport
Two people were killed and 10 others injured after a Diamond DA42 Twin Star crashed into a hangar at Parafield Airport in Adelaide, South Australia, on April 29, 2026. The aircraft, registration VH-YQP, was operated by a local flight training organization and was conducting circuit training with a flight instructor and student pilot aboard when the accident occurred during the late afternoon.
According to a preliminary occurrence report from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau, witnesses observed the aircraft become unstable during a go-around. The aircraft reportedly rolled and descended rapidly, striking the ground before impacting a hangar in the airport's general aviation area. The impact triggered a large fire that destroyed the aircraft and caused significant structural damage to the building.
Emergency services reported that of the 10 people injured on the ground, one suffered life-threatening burns and two sustained serious injuries. Six others were treated for shock or smoke inhalation. The ATSB has deployed investigators to analyze CCTV footage, flight training records and maintenance documentation. A cause for the accident has not yet been determined. The Diamond DA42 is a composite twin-engine aircraft widely used for multi-engine commercial pilot training.
