Two Injured as Cessna 172 Crashes on Utah Mountain, Sparks Wildfire
Two men were injured May 10 when a Cessna 172, registration N6643A, crashed in a wooded area east of Marysvale, Utah. According to a preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board, the accident occurred at approximately 3:43 p.m. local time on Monroe Mountain near Anderson Canyon.
Local reports from Mid-Utah Radio identify the occupants as an 88-year-old man and a 59-year-old man. The 88-year-old sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Utah Valley Hospital, while the 59-year-old was transported from the scene by ground ambulance. The NTSB report confirms one serious and one minor injury.
The impact triggered a small wildfire in the remote terrain, which was subsequently contained by local fire crews. Gephardt Daily reported that the rescue effort required a coordinated response from the sheriff's office, emergency medical services and fire departments due to the remote crash site. The aircraft was destroyed by impact and post-crash fire. The NTSB has opened an investigation under report number WPR26LA180.
